The original Santram Maharaj was a great saint of the Avadhoot category. He came to Nadiad from Girnar, which is why he is also called Girnari Bava, Videhi Bava, or Sukha-Sagarji. He arrived in Samvat 1872 and lived for the spiritual good of the people for 15 years before taking Jivat-Samadhi on the full moon day of the month Magha in Samvat 1887. Initially, he resided in a hollow of the Rayan tree, located where the ‘Deri’ is situated at present.
